Default What is this?

Hi Folk's,

I was changing my gearbox oil yesterday and found a lump of metal stuck to the drain plug. Hopefully someone who knows their way around the gearbox will be able to tell me what it was.

Pic's can be found here:

ImageShack® - Done

ImageShack® - Done

Car changes gear with no problems, but I can hear a very quiet (can't hear it with the window down or the radio on) buzzing noise when changing down from 3rd to 2nd.

Any help/suggestions would be gatefully received, but I'm guessing the box will need to come out for a proper look.

Cheers,

Dave.

The pics come up a bit small to be 100% but that looks like a piece of the over-reach washer on 3rd gear. They quite often break up on older boxes.

What's left of it can be removed and left off as a ' cure ', It will not come to any harm if you do that.

It will need the box out and in bits though.

Good luck David APi

Thanks for the reply. I take it that driving the car somewhere to get it fixed will be a bit of a gamble?

Cheers,

Dave.

As long as the box is not super noisy or you can feel things loose through the action of the gear lever, I wouldn't worry too much.

After all, those bits might havbe been wangling around in there for 20,000 miles - know one knows for sure.

Wait 'til it develops into a problem is my advice. It is unlikely to cost much more if you delay.
