trans upgrade??
#1
Has anyone had any problems with the trans when upgrading the wrx?? I am looking at buying a wrx shortly and heard that if I want to do any major upgrades (over 30 hp total) that i would have to upgrade the trans or have it rebuilt... is this just a rumor or is it true. Has anyone had any problems after they upgrade the wrx at all??
Thanks for any help

All the Subaru gearboxes are quite weak.
The later model WRX's 205Kw Model use twin baulk ring setup which aid gear changes by less chance of synchro crunch.
Those gearboxes and the Twin turbo boxes are definitely stronger but not a whole heap.
I find the key thing is not to upgrade you clutch from standard, the slight slippage in your clutch saves your gear box from breaking the teeth on second gear as fast.

My RA synchro gave up big time after few miles but some serious use - standard clutch too. Now gone to AP paddle clutch and dog box - really quick changes but not the smoothest around town!
