Question

I'm thinking about getting a knock sensor when doing my service soon. Reason is it's an Sti2 with 260 bhp and I've been told that on full throttle the sti's can knock a bit and this is what our scoobies are famous for and melted pistons result. I run on 97 or 98 ron as recommended but is there still a worry re knocking?

I have to ask these questions - my baby is only 2 months old to me!!

You can get a Knocklink from Scoobymania or BRDevelopments amongst others.

This will either link to the standard Knock sensor and display noise on LEDs or to a new wideband sensor you can fit.

Is there a knock sensor on the engine already then? And if there is does it feed back to the ecu to alter the timing or something like that?

yes there is. However on an STi the map is for 100RON not 97-98 like UK fuel and it may reach its retard limits and knock esp if you used 95RON petrol. You could consider octane booster- NF or Millers seem to be in vogue. This would increase your safety margins.

A more expensive option is a remap, which would give you extra safety and performance.

Talking

Colin
The Knocklink from BRDevelopments is £85 for the module and £65 for the sensor. Worth it for the peace of mind. Bit annoying though, paying all that good money for something you hope will never work!! Try info@brdevelopments.com

Cool

I think we should call this the John Banks forum! John, you always seem to any everyone's questions!

Talking of knocklinks, I know what the knocklink from BRD looks like but apparently the Scoobymania device isn't as bulky with regards to the led display and I have been trying to get some pictures from them but they didn't have any when they replied to my e-mail. Has anyone on here got any piccys?

Thanks
Scott

I'd certainly be interested in seeing what the BRD one looks like too.
