One thing I noted since I started hanging around here is the apparent lack of significantly modified cars. Perhaps the US is overflowing with people who have too much money, perhaps it's just the wild wild west of modified cars since there is not really any photo radar or camera patrol cars.

There are people who have completely blueprinted their engines and replaced all the internals, closed the decks o-ringed and other nasty things to pump out 600+hp.

Is there anyone in the UK doing sick things like that to their cars? Looking at the dyno pages I didn't really see anything sicker than 300-350hp. Or is that the limit for a reliable street driven 2.0l engine?

Thumbs up

Ive been wondering the same thing- its because the average owner of imprezas over here are a little older (more boring?) and impreza tuners over here are ripping people off badly with prices of parts etc.

In this country the main tuned (powerful) engine is the ford cosworth 2litre 16v lump (not allowd to mention 'cosworth' on here though as people get angry )- std 205bhp, average engine in this country 300bhp (imo), there are many road going versions 450-550bhp- record so far 188mph and sub 3.5sec to 60mph, i think. martin hadlands escort.

Impreza tuning will speed up over here one day im sure.

sigh

The Scooby flat 4 is generally quite a good powerplant but you'd have to spend megabucks to get it over 350bhp and I dont know how reliable it would be much beyond that.

I feel that we (well me certainly) dont buy scooby's for outright power but for the overall speed of the package... 4WD + very stiff chassy (sp?) and good power.
You have to remember that the quickest car isn't always going to be the most powerfull. My Westfield is far quicker (and I'm sure quicker than most cossies (plz dont bait me)) but I like, no love, my scoob

Cool

Don't worry, maybe I'm just guessing, but there has to be at least one group of nutters based within the UK with a number of seriously twisted projects being planned and/or executed, I'm fairly sure of that.

Perhaps since you folks have had access to 280hp versions you've found it unnecessary to mod the car anymore. I think some of the people here set out to have the best and fastest beast around and they blindly chase after the 600hp mark throwing piles of money at it but not knowing how good the car is at 300hp.

I frequently see people who run 2.5RSes and poo poo on swapping an EJ20 in saying how it has no torque at the bottom end etc etc yet none of them have been in let alone driven an STi powered Imp. All these people are madly running around swapping cranks, pistons, rods, installing oil squirters and having their decks closed trying to build up an engine for some insane amount of power...

If anyone can advise how to get these sort of figures 400+bhp I would be willing to give it a go. I have had my car 3-4 years and after running it at santa pod the other day (1ST time pretty much hooked now) would like to get ALOT more power 400+. p.s I dusted a 400bhp cossie, he was a crap driver though 1/4 12seconds not bad considering no mods whats so ever YET
