Default PPG or Quaife

I was talking to a local company hat specialises in scooby and they are authorised PPG dealers and also Quaife dealers.

they gave me the standard price for the PPG se but also said that the Quaife full 5 gear set was about £2100 + vat.

Any reason not to use Quaife?
Has anybody used Quaife?

sounds very cheap indeed for a straight cut kit (ppg compares to about 3k built box).

quaffe are a pretty well respected motosports parts supplier so i can't imagine they would sell dodgy, substandard kit.

just check the tech specs and ratings on the kit there using, make sure its designed for uprated use ratehr than just a replacment for the standard bits.

I've just looked on the quaife site and the ratios are nowhere near the standard UK ones so it doesn't look good.

It did say Group N spec.

But I don't want group N ratios.

Back to looking for a cheap PPG box..

I have experience of Quaife from my previous life, I was not impressed.

I wouldn't.

Ooo.
Who were you in your previous life?

My aunty was one of Cleopatra's hand maidens lol.

Seriously..
Due to the ratio difference I wasn't gonna bother David. Are there problems with the quaife kit?
They've normally got a pretty good name..

Do you ever get second hand PPG boxes in?

pm'd ya.

No to secondhand PPG's, There is the odd one around occasionally, but be careful because the old ones are using the old TY 752 cases and are nothing like as good or strong as the later TY754 case types. Which is the version that you would buy off someone like us today.

Good Luck David

Whats wrong with TY752 cases? Are they just likely to fall apart or not upto the job?

They flex, Bill. And TY 754 don't. There are mods to be done to the 752's that ' strengthen ' them, but when the right alternative is available why buy trouble?

Is that issue exaggerated by more torque, or will it present itself at any power level? What sort of torque/power will TY752 cases remain reliable? And what are the side effects of flexing casing?

350 hp seems to be the cut off point both for bhp & torque. More than that and you are distictly ' getting away with it'.

It will break, just a matter of when.

Flexing case means busted gears.

My PM box was full. Bugger.

Mines the 99 so I took a TY754 out and have since bought another one. And possibly even a spare set of casings so I was hoping to buy a TY752 with PPG set and transfer it all to one of my "unhappy" TY754's.

Does that 350hp/lbft apply to ppg gearsets in a TY752 casing?

I've only ever used 752 cases on my race car with 5 speed boxes, the only thing that broke were either the OE 5th gear, drop gears and a PAR 4th gear.
