Question

Hi - dont normally post on here, but ........ looking at the back of my rear diff it looks like there is a hairline fracture between the two plugs???????????????? could that be possible?? I havent hit anything, I have driven my Impreza with care over its 20 month life and 23000 miles ............... I am more than a little concerned.

Anyone here know what it may be??

Pete

Doubtful mate, probably a casting line, if it were cracked ir would surely be wet with oil.

Thumbs up

If it has not leaked oil there is unlikely to be a problem but you must check the oil level is ok.Hope you find it to be satisfactory & put your mind at rest.

Exclamation

The rear diff. cover is a die-casting and it is normal to have what appears to be fine surface "crazing!, usually due to the surface cooling slightly quicker during the casting process. This cover is not a stressed part of the unit. No leaks? - don`t worry!
