In the French Subaru magasine Jan - Feb 2002there is an adverticing for a BMC air filter, its not a cone filter like the KN, but look like a closed cylinder. The adverticing claim 236 PS on a standard 2002 WRX Prise is 4o86 FF around 470 pound. 236 PS from an airfilter sounds like a joke, do anyone know this filter ?

If you visit France, try to get your hands on the SUB Magazine, it's a 82 pages magazine only about Subaru Impreza's. No. 5 is on the street. ( only in French, but a lot of nice pictures and a 2300 km (1500 miles) test of the new STI

Yep i know what these are and I am in the process of bringing them to the British market as they are a geniune competitor to K&N et al.

They supply quite a few F1 teams.

I will be speaking to them tomorrow, so if anyone needs any details please let me know.

Yes Firefox it looks like a inline filter with it's own carbon enclosures formed as a cylindre. The intake goes trough the existing hole in the wing, I assume the original pre filter in the wing is removed.
BMC is used by several F1 teams.
If the filter add around 20 BHP to my car I'm the first to install it.

I think you'd be lucky to get 20BHP out of an airfilter.

Spoke with BMC this morning and unfortunatly they do not make a kit for an Impreza as yet. I have another alternative which I have been working on however which promises to be the most effective way of increasing power from the airfilter.

Please email me if you'd like more info.

Bmc make really good motorcycle filters, compared with K&N they let more airflow through and with more filtration, I have no idea what their car filters are like, but if they are as good as the one I had on my race bike they will be very good i can assure you of that

I agree +20BHP from an airfilter is unrealistic, but this is what they claimed in the article in the French SUB magazine. Don't belive all you read !

The filter mounted on the Impreza was a
BMC Filtration System CDA( Carbon Dynamic Air box) that uses a pressurized air box with a dynamicac hose. The box look nice in carbon ( or carbon look a like )
BMC do two types of CDA filters for cars, one for engine below 1600 cc and one from 1600 to 2500cc.
I think it will maybe be as good as a KN intoduction kit, but will not make all that noice.

When I checked with BMC they said they didn't cater for Imprezas but I can go back to them now with this information. - Thanks

Email me regarding the new system I am looking into as I am sure you will be interested!

I used a Green "Twister" filter which is like a K&N cone cased in an aluminium body - and much cheaper:

They do a ducting kit which I also used - works well.

Pipercross also do their "Viper" kit for the Impreza:

Thanks

Firstly i have to say that i am no fan of kn what so ever but you cant compare a bmc to a kn. I first held a bmc filter at auto sport a few weeks ago and was shocked by the poor quality, espacially as this was a display filter. As for F1 teams using them, british teams tend to use kn because they are in britain also, Italian teams use italian filters, simple, no other reason other than waiting time for the product. I have heard that some teams have sent helicopters down to collect filters when extremely urgent, and no this is not a rumour. Personally i would never trust a bmc as i doubt the quality of the construction!
