Question

While at the Autosport show a few weeks back the Superchip stand caught my eye.

Sent off for some info, which I received the other day. They claim an increase in power of some 40 bhp!

So the question is - does anyone have experience of them on a Scooby and can the power inreases be backed up.

It all seems a bit dodgy to me, but they claim reliability is maintained.

Is there a better way to spend my money? Superchip is about 475squid. Mods at moment is just SS backbox and ITG filter.

Try a search on supachips - seem to remember that it fools the ecu into thinking it is under boosting and increases the boost which may not be good.

Superchip is a bleed valve (about £10) and a voltage clamp on your map sensor (£2).

As above the MAP sensor is fooled to prevent fuel cut, and in fact you have NO fuel cut whatsoever. This is dangerous IMHO. If a hose comes off and you do not lift off you could see more than double stock levels of boost quite quickly.

MY99/00 UK cars do however respond quite well to increasing the boost up to fuel cut and a little bit higher.

Dawes devices with a bleed hole of 1.5mm is a safer and just as effective way to do the job at say 16-17 PSI and costs about £26 during group buys - there is one going on at the moment.

Spend the rest on a downpipe, centre section, backbox, panel filter, intercooler hosing, boost gauge and air fuel ratio meter.

I nearly went for the Superchip and was glad when the so called "Subaru Manchester" (C+K) messed me around saying I had gone a week early. Glad about that because I went to RC Developments and got 35 safe horses for £2,000, but compare that to the £400 Superchip seems like a rip off. I feel really confident in my car and truly feel considering the stories going around about superchips I got a bargain as I can still modify the car further.

Hi Lunchie,

How about a Unichip? This is a mapable "chip" which allows the technical expert (ie fitter) to increase the boost, but has the added advantage that the fueling and ignition are programmed to match this.

Total cost is not that much more than the Superchip, but is a superior product both in performance and safety (IMHO of course).

Had one fitted to my car last year:
MY98 Terzo
JR panel filter
Magnex downpipe and backbox
RR results - 276bhp and max torque of 281ftlb @ 3750rpm

Feels good !!!!!

Supachips make chips for most cars

Non-turbo applications are generally 12% more BHP & 15% more torque - You do the math!

I had one fitted to a non-turbo car and was impressed with it.

IMHO i would not fit one to my Scoob.

Thanks for the replies.

I gues they're what I expected, as when looking at various other peoples mods, I don't think I've once seen a Superchip mentioned.

I think further exhaust mods is where I'll go first - or maybe even PPP- If a can afford it!

I Had a superchip fitted on my Astra 2.0 sri and it was bobbins. I thought that 40 BHP on my Impreza would be good but like Paul said "I wouldn't fit one to my scoob!" Here Here.
