gearbox removal
alright fellows, im struggling massively to pull out my gearbox (wrx 1995)..everything is stripped from the box itself.the only thing supporting is the four bolts and dowels. i have obviously got a jack underneath to keep it level however the box seems to be pulling back at the bootom. i cannot see anything catching or still attached. could something be still caught within the box??? it is in neautral as i have connected back in to ensure this......any helpwould be massivley appreciated thanks.

Is the top coming apart? if not drive a small chisel in near the dowels to prise it apart. You can clean up the burr's once apart. If it's never been off before it will be very tight.

Get the car as high up in the air as you can...
remove intercooler
remove starter motor
remove allen bolt which start motor hid (10mm allen key)
use an M6 bolt (one from the cam cover fits) and wind into the clutch fork pivot, wiggle the clutch fork and pull the pivot out,
undo the bell housing bolts / nuts,
remove cover over the prop shaft connecting point between box and rear diff,
undo prop shaft,
remove prop shaft bearing bracket,
remove gearbox oil,
drop out and remove prop,
support gearbox with jacket etc,
remove driveshafts - undo one hub and remove pin from driveshaft stubs,
undo the gearbox cradle from body and then from gearbox,
drop gearbox back and down and off the clutch / flywheel..

It sounds like the release bearing is still stuck on the clutch fork to me! shine a torch in to have a look. If you have 30mm clearance right round the case its all it can be! Are you sure you removed the fork shaft? 10mm allen head cap on the passenger side with the shaft behind? comes out by threading in a m6 bolt and leavering out??
