Default Newbie needs a box

Hi guys,

I'm completely new to the Scooby world, so thought i'd drop in and say hi.

I've just bought a UK spec Legacy Wagon 2.5 N/A 16v auto on a 1999 T plate. I've not picked it up yet, but after taking it for a test drive last week it seemed very good, except for a gearbox issue where the take up when put into drive is VERY slow.

It's not too bad when it's warm and reverse seemed fine.

Now, i've spoken to a few people who have said this is a common fault on legacy's (the car has done 117k with full Subaru dealer history) and is in mint condition). The people (gearbox specialists) i spoke to said it would be £1100 + the dreaded for a recond box!

I've found a company on Ebay that buy imported engines & boxes from Japan, they guarantee them for 3 months and claim none have done over 55k.

I was just wondering if anyone can advise me of the best solution and if the import 2.5 auto boxes are the same as the UK spec and if there are any differences between the turbo/Non Turbo/old shape/new shape etc.

I know this is a bit of a long winded question with perhaps no straight answer, but i just thought i'd ask.

Thank you very much in advance.
