I pulled into subaru4you at the weekend for my new clutch and SS pipes and when I poped the bonnet they said "What is that noise?" I went "er... what noise?". They point it out and I can hear it now 
Apparantly my water pump has gone, apprarantly it may have happened when they (SGT subaru) replaced my cambelt in my regular service.
Len did seem very supprised I was wondering if anyone else has had this before. (MY97 30K miles)

Dizzy, this may only help indirectly, but I'm going to have the cambelt replaced tomorrow (60.000 mile service). My dealer, who I trust 100 % adviced me to have the water pump replaced at the same time, although it's up to me.
I'll ask him tomorrow why exactly he advises me to do so.
