Thumbs up

Scoobysport 3" into 2" bore fitted to mine.

I had a scorpion on before .

The difference beetween them was that the scorpion had a cover plate where the wastegate is,which means you dont have a full flowing exhaust .

This is fitted with a full hks hyper ti tip.

Nice+loud+max performance.

Question

SCOOBERATORS

In your honest opninion, did you notice a SIGNIFICANT difference performance wise going from the Scorpion D/P to the Scoobysport one?

Also what are the differences if any in noise between the two?

The reason I ask is that I am thinking of getting the Scorpion D/P as it is cheaper and I have read posts saying that the fully open pipes don't make a huge difference

Thank you
Rikki

Open wastegates are much better.

why get a less restictive pipe in the first place if you are going to leave the biggest restriction in.

If you are worried about noise, go for a BPM, mild steel keeps it quieter.

Guys

Since I started that thread mentioned by Pete, I suppose i'd better put some comments on here too.

After the scoobysport downpipe was fitted(By the dealer), there is definately an increase in power, how much I dont know. Full boost is certainly earlier than before.

As for noise, yeah its a bit louder, especially hammering it between 3500 & 4500 rpm, after that I dont think there is too much difference, you just hear the turbo whistle.

I dont regret getting it, and would recommend it to anyone looking For a d/pipe change.

Cost. I can get the Scorpion fitted a lot cheaper than the SS. Thats why I wanted to know how much difference there is between the two and whether it was worth me saving for the SS.

I understand that the SS may be less restrictive but at least I would have the CAT out of the way which must be a very big restriction.

(I have a SS BB and Scorpion DeCat Mid at the moment)

Rikki, that is a valid answer to my question, why not consider the magnex?

I believe that is not too expensive but does allow wastegate flow.

The Magnex is twin dump and doesn't restrict the wastegate as Adam says!! Cost for me was 170 quid fitted from Halfords

John

Having sent you the prices for all our DPs I would suggest go with the SS.

Let me know what you think.

Adam
I had a Scorpion on my old 220GSi and liked it. I can get it quite cheap also and I heard a few people comment that it makes a lovely sound - although I am not too sure how much sound varies between the different D/Ps - perhaps you guys could comment?

Jawa
I was under the impression that the Magnex offer at Halfords was finished now?

Also, there was a thread a while back (different from the link Pete posted above) that discussed the merits of Twin Dump, Open/Closed exits (I forget the exact terms) etc and a few people were arguing that there isn't a HUGE difference between them all performance wise while there can be quite a significant difference in price. (The Scorpion being the cheapest option for me)

there wasnt a lot of conclusion on the open neck/win dump debate.

but there certainly was nto an open/closed debate.

To my knowledge the only advantage of a closed wastegate is that it might be quieter, but even that is no a certainty.

The argument is certainly not in the same league as the twin dump debate which has pros and cons worth considering.

Sound does vary between pipes for sure. some allow more turbine noise etc. BPM is mild steel so is considerably quieter taht kind of thing.

Rikki,

Probably has - was a while ago I had it fitted, saying that though when I had it done alot of other people went to other Halfords which said they knew nothing of the offer, I rang up my local one again and they were still doing it Still, costs about 170 quid and then the fitting on top.

Adam,

Can you say what are the major pro's and cons between single and twin dump then?

Cheers
Neil.

oooh, interesting, best downpipe, hmmm ,guess it depends what you're after, as in, more power, louder, or other factors.

Here's my story.
Car is MY94 WRX Wagon (like you lot don't already know that ) and had a standard downpipe on it, center and backbox were Apexi N1 system (3 inch from center to backbox then tailpipe is about 3.5 - 4 inches). was loudish.

Decided I wanted a downpipe. ooh, so many choices, single, twindump, open neck, each with various 'flavours', eg; HKS, BPM, Scoobymania, Scoobysport, etc..

After a few messages on here, and a few emails with people, it was suggested that a 3 inch downpipe would be a good match for the rest of the 3 inch system. So, this limits the choices. Bottom line, I went for a BPM Twindump downpipe (thanks Lou_C) it looks great and sounds even better. noise is a little louder but is waaaay deeper than before, which is rather nice.

As for power gains, well, turbo does seem to spool up a lot quicker, and thus overtaking is over much quicker. any ideas on actual power increase? no idea. never had the car dynoed before, and thus don't know what it was putting out. I do plan, at some point, to get it dynoed to find out what it now puts out, and one is temped to swap back to the original DP and get a reading then swap back to the BPM, but I'm a lazy sod so I doubt I'd do that.

not sure if any of the above is any help or use

Are you suggesting that there isn't a lot to choose between the open and twin design but that there is a significant difference between those two designs and a closed neck design? (nto??)

Noise isn't really an issue although I do like it quite noisy. Stef's (Scorpion) and my freind's (Full SS) both sound very nice.

Jawa - How much were they charging for fitting?

Markus - how is Lou_c these days - don't hear much from her anymore?

I spoke to Magnex the other day, who said that when they first designed a DP for an Impreza they found that it was more restrictive as a single dump compared to the twin dump they now sell.

Thought that might help a little.

Yes, that's the general consensus....I mean, have you *seen* and wastegate outlet on a standard DP

Hmmm....now I am confused.

I would like to know how much difference the Scorpion DP would make and then how much more difference changing to an open/twin dump design would make?

Fittings about 2-3 hours depending on the mechanic, and price is therefore depending on the labour cost.
