I have a 96 STI 3, the engine is standard I beleive apart from an Apexi fuel controller, peak boost is showing as 1.1 bar on my HKS boost gauge - is this standard boost.

Also is it not a bit strange to fit just a fuel controller without upping the boost level or changing the ecu, I have looked at the ecu and it appears to be the standard JECS, anyone give me some advice please.

Thanks
Jon

Standard boost is about 1.1 bar peak I believe and about 1.0 bar held. Its possible it had a boost controller and fuel controller on there before but the previous owner decided he wanted to keep the boost controller for his next car? He may have had a mappable ecu such as a link but wanted to use an external boost controller which is easier to set up, thereby having no need for the fuel controller.

Adam,

If a mappable ecu was used, wouldn't this be a non Jecs one?

sorry, I meant he may have a mappable ecu in his new car, and so might want use of his old boost controller but not his fuel controller.

The jecs in your car is not mappable, but power engineering might feel otherwise.

POwer engineering can do what they call a pe phase one remap.

This has been the subject of many threads relating to the destruction of engines. There has never been a proven case, but there is evidence to allow each person to make up their mind either way.

Arguably they are not remapping the standard ecu put using a piggy back board to trick it. It does give the advantage of running standard idle control meaning you get beautiful starting in any weather.

I am not sure but I think he controversy lead to Power engineering removing the product from the market, and they now concentrate on evos.

I do know that Bob Rawle refitted his pe phase one and found it to be detting all over the place, and that was not specualtion but observation.
