Default MY00 Gearbox - how much?

The gearbox on my UK Turbo has a couple of problems, firstly when cruising at motorway speeds it'll have a habit of jumping out of 5th, which I understand can be caused by the bolt which holds 5th in coming loose.

Secondly, it has become increasing difficult to engage reverse, and then any forward gear afterwards.

So, I'm thinking that replacing the box with a reconditioned one is going to end up being the most cost effective - can anyone give me some indication how much this is likely to cost inc. swapping the "new" for "old"?

Thanks in advance.

The £750 is for a fully re-con box with warranty. If you want your repaired that cost may be a lot less. You need to ring them to find out.

Fitting anywhere is normally £250 +VAT

....so thats £800 for a second hand box diff and prop.

I reckon Teg Sport would easily be able to rebuild your UK box for under £400 quid with good 2nd hand parts...
They did my old MY00 UK Turbo for £350...

Banny - So thats £700 for a second hand box fitted with your prices.... think I would still head for a warranted fully refurbed unit anyday - which is why it costs more!

You definately got a cheap deal for fitting both at £150, sure you didnt offer them any ...eh hem, favours!! Thats a very cheap hourly rate ....is it still holding together?

I get my work done at the main specialist like Roger Clark, Api, Powerstation etc... not the back yard cowboys.

Its holding together very well may I add at close to 400bhp! I do agree with what you say a warranty does offer peace of mind but at this time of year people have other priorities than there cars and tend not to spend as much on them.
Only reason I am changing is due to going for more power and picking up a 6 speed at a good price, which is alo being fitted by the the "cowboys"
