96 & 98 diffs ....???

Default 96 & 98 diffs ....???

i was going to drop a 96 RA gearbox and engine into a 98 WRX, but i do have concearns about the diff.

does anyone know if they will pair or do i have to sort something out?

To be sure (and you must get the right diff) you need to find the fial drive ratio for the 'new' box. The tranmission number is close to the starter motor position on the gearbox bell housing. It should start TY 752......
That code can then be de-coded to give the drive, probably 4:111, but could be 4:444 too. The rear diff then needs sorting. Take the code off the WRX box and de-code THAT one to find the final drive. On the Jap models, the front driff ratio is the same as the rear.

i thought that the RA's had a final drive of 3.900 but i'm not certain.

the WRX has got a gearbox code of TY752VN6AA. Has that got a final drive of 4.111
