Which gearbox/engine for 400bhp
Hi mates!
I have a MY98 EUDM Impreza Turbo and I'm looking for 400bhp/500Nm
Can anyone tell me which gearbox I need? Does the STi V6 gearbox stand that amount of power?
Does anyone know if my atm stock engine stands that 400bhp?
I've got a TD0516G front entry, 255l/h Walbro, Apexi AVCR, FMIC
all other things are stock atm and I run 1bar boost and it runs great I think!
Still to come: 550cc nismo injectors or 720cc better? Power FC, FPR,
What's the best and cheapest solution?
Get an complete STi V4 engine? or an V6 engine? with gearbox?
Or get a crashed STi V4, V5, V6 and break it?
My problem is that I am from Austria and how to get a crashed STi from UK to Austria!?
Tell me your opinions!
If you have some good parts for me tell me!

You can add a turbo and headers to the list.
I think there are a few non sti engines at around 380-400hp
Gearbox wise its the torque that kills them and there are reports of standard boxes breaking at 330 Lbft and others coping fine with much more - it really seems to be a lottery, even with the older STI boxes, although v5 and v6 (754) STI are the strongest of the classic 5 speeds.
Fit and forget option is the EU/UK 6 speed box, not the cheapest though!

Are WRX and STi the same engines?
Would it be better to get a STi/WRX V6 shortblock/engine or is a V4 engine enough?
I think the V6 gearbox will be the best for my planned amount of power!

there are plenty of forged short blocks goin for silly cheap money just now why not look at that as a base option, easier getting that to austria than a whole car,see bob'5 as he had one for sale

i know that a bigger turbo is needed for 400bhp but at first i wanna go for that 350bhp!
Do I need a uprated oil pump or is the std one ok?
Found a STi V4 gearbox does it stand that 400bhp?
Car will be used for street and 1/4mile 2-3times a year!!!
V4 box enough or better V6?

You have - TD05, FMIC, fuel pump, AVCR + ECU, DP, exhaust, possibly headers (wrapped), fuel reg and 440's will do it if you have 380's now. An uprated gearbox will be next if you have real torque to go with the 350bhp's. Don't waste cash on sti boxes, just go uprated or 6 speed.

When I knew i was going for similar figures, i opted for a PPG straight cut gear set, can handle loads of torque
Big £££ though
also iirc the oil pumps are "modified" not uprated

some guys here use a V6 5-speed gearbox with 400+bhp and it still works! But how long?
What I need to change for a 6-speed? rear-diff? Dont want to change my complete rear section..

You don't want to have to drive like Julie Andrews so don't bother with a v6 box. I'm not sure if they really have 400 or any decent torque either to last with an OE box.
