A worn big end will NOT stop knocking when warm.
Piston slap is the normal cause of cold noise - most people live with it,provided its not excessive.
Forged Pistons are normally a bit slappy from cold when running larger Piston to Bore Clearances.
If in doubt - take it to the professionals for an opinion.

If it was a worn big end it would either knock for a few seconds whilst the oil pressure is building up and then go quite, or it'll knock all the time.

Anything other than that and its a problem elsewhere - or as above - piston slap (which as long as it doesn't use oil, and has good compression, isn't a problem).
