front diff problem
I spoke to my mate today, with regards to my problem, but i am still confused.
so here goes.
gear box company did the diff today, however there was nothing wrong with the original.
right.
i thought that a four wheeled car had power in transmition terms to all four wheels, am i correct.
next.
when you spin the drivers side front wheel nothing happens on passenger the front side wheel, should it.
i always thougtht that if you spin one then the other wheel would spin oppostite direction.
so now the diff has been fitted i am still no further forward.
i aslo got told that if you spin the drivers sdie front the the passenger side rear wheel would spin.
derek said to check something else but was unsure what he ment.
any help any 1
cheers mark

The company 'did' the front diff why if all was ok?
The Impreza front diff is usually the 'open' type, with no LSD feature at all, so if the front NS spins then nothing gets to the other front, but the rear is driving froward and evetually the front gets traction and grips.
The centre diff distributes in a fixed ratio the torque from the engine to the front/rear of the Impreza. The ratio is usually fixed on 'normal' Imprezas and can be varied considerably on those fitted with DCCD control.
As to help:
Are you sure you need help?
What is wrong with the trasmission of the car?
If you like:
Jack the front 2 wheels off the ground.
Turn the NS front anti clockwise. The OS front should stand still especially if held by a friend. This proves the front diff is open and working. It might if allowed to be free rotate in the opposite direction to the one you are turning.
If the diff is any kind of LSd then the 2 front wheels will rotate in the same direction, and if held, will still try to turn in the same direction.
It is a rare Impreza which has a lsd in the front.

If you leave the car in gear so the gearbox can't turn, the the two fronts should turn in opposite direction, leave it in neutral so the gearbox can turn and spinning one wheel only tells you it can spin!
What made you think you had a problem in the first place?

when i was on a final remap session @the tuners on the dyno, the front passenger side, and both rears where powering, and the drivers side stopped completely, and that was when they tolod me the diff had gone.
i always thought that when your car was on the rollers that all four wheels should spin as they are powered.
something makes me thing there might be something else wrong.
maybe
any views.
should or shouldn't this happen on the rolling road.
