Default Standard Gear Box Power Capability ??

Hey Guys...

Just wondering how much power a standard MY00 WRX gearbox will hold ?? Im also running Exedy clutch and lightened flywheel.. How much would it cost for a power build on my box ??

Cheers - Andy

There are a few factors to take into consideration, how you treat your gearbox and how much torque your running.
Treating your gearbox harshly will decrease its life expectancy, running about 300lbs of torque and you can also consider this to decrease the life expectancy of your gearbox, put both together and your not going to have a drivable car (cos its going to be broken).
Otherwise how long is a piece of string?

I have been running approx 330 bhp and 340 torque on a my99 gearbox for about 10000miles and the gearbox is 90,000 miles old!

I don't do any "lauches" though or brutal gear changes

mine was running 350/345 . . . my00 UK
loads of launches , did about 6000 miles no problems

i bit the bullet in the end though and went for the PPG
seemed the simplest way

prevention is better than a cure

MY00 broke at 340BHP, changed to a version 6 sti type r gearbox modified with UK front diff and centre. Managed nearer 380BHP and was sold to someone with a 400+ 2.5 conversion as I stripped the car.
I would look at the sti box as an alternative as they are stronger than the wrx box. And also you keep the 5 speed.
