Car's an MY99 and I use SUL. Currently has the Scoobysport rear box. Don't want to spend the cash on the PPP despite all the good things said about it. Nearest tuner to me is Falkland Performance who appear to have very good reputation - have recommended their twin downpipe and centre though they also do Magnex. Seems a fairly cheap mod - does it really improve the drive and will my good lady notice a serious increase in noise - she already thinks it's "boy-racery" enough!! Any views welcome particularly those who've used Falkland.
Cheers

If you want it quiet I wouldn't have gone for a SS rear box despite the fabulous noise. I have a Falkland twin dump pipe (one of the first) and the PPP decat centre and PD backbox. It is commendably quiet but a large part of that is the backbox.

The Falkland/Magnex pipe is very good, and Falkland fit it well. Big improvement in performance both with and without the Prodrive ECU. But don't let Falkland sell you a Superchip and politely decline

How about a Dawes boost controller £25 to give you extra go with the downpipe? See the recent threads...

Suggest also get the resonated Magnex centre or pick up a 2nd hand STi decat centre to keep noise down, and consider a Remus or Prodrive backbox - I'm sure you would find someone willing to swap if the SS was too noisy for the wife when you are decatted.

Sorry for Jumping on the thread.

John - Does the Falkland downpipe have a CAT?? If not why not have the CAT in the centre??

Thanks to both

No cat in Falkland pipe. Cat in centre - yes for MOTs!

Cool

I have full Magnex from Falkland, now have 260bhp on a UK. Best mod pound for pound there is, in an exhaust. All will give you similar gains.

I had a mate tell me its ****ing loud, when he was following me 2 cars behind (only with the foot down!) Inside its fine.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your input. Probably get away with it in terms of my good lady wife as long as it's not revved too hard - think she actually enjoys driving the car, she just thinks that at 32 I should be buying an Audi etc etc.

Re MOT there is some doubt you'd get it through on the centre CAT alone and I know that Falkland have a twin CAT centre they "lend" you whilst the car is MOT'd nearby. Think if you're doing it you are as well going the whole hog albeit it's illegal and ensure that you advise insurer in writing that exhaust system is cat free. My insurer Frizzell were fine and have not asked for additional premium when I go for it.

I have had the Superchips chat with Falkland - I am tempted but think I'll see how I get on with the exhaust. There are alot of stories about the chip but you've got to ask whether Falkland would sell so many of the things if customers were coming back with blown engines.

Cheers

I am utterly convinced that a Dawes controller will give you a better result than a Superchip with more safety for less than 10% of the cost. The ball-spring will give you better boost control with vastly less wastegate creep than the factory boost controller with a bleed valve and a voltage clamp on the MAP line. A Superchip could be done for £10 with even modest electronics knowledge, and the bleed valve and fittings costs about £10. The setup is easy. But you wouldn't see me disabling fuel cut on my car!
