Default What Torque / Power are you running with Ver 5 STI Gearbox

Id like to hear what kind of power people are running on these and what kind of level they can hold together up to. Ive heard of a few people running in the high 300's without a problem.

420 ft.lbs? Is that usual, or is it just a matter of time?

It's at least those figures and have been runing like that for about 3-4 weeks. No trackday work and just the occasional "play".

Before the current turbo, i was running a 20G at up to 1.5 bar, so it was prolly up to 390hp.

I've had my fair share of troubles with the gearbox, but it's mainly duff bearings or knackered syncro's. It has actually broken a gear.....yet.

412/400, has been running at this spec all year and has seen the track and the drag strip. Totally standard gearset btw.

Box has done 70K, the last 10K at that power. couple of trackdays and i dont potter on the road.

Never been opened and it still feels like new TBH!

I ran approx 1000 miles at circa 500/500 without issue although that didn't include any drag starts, just fast road use. I believe Alan G ran further with even more power although it did eventually break IIRC.
The V5/6 Sti /P1 box is the pick of the 5 speed crop.

So do you reckon I might get away with the standard box when the gt3040 goes on Andy, for a while anyway?

As Andy says i ran mine at over 500/500 for a number of months before 3rd gear gave way.
In all previous "tuned" incarnations of my car over the years, the gearbox failures were always 3rd gear, yet none of them failed when under power and none gave any indication they were about to fail.
