Unhappy

Went to fit a decat downpipe to my MY00 today but found the lamda sensor seized in the original downpipe. Didn't want to force it too hard and strip the threads.
I'm sure I've read on the BBS in the past that the sensors can be cross threaded in the factory when new, is this true?
If that is the case what is the fix........new lamda sensor?

have you tried wacking the end of the spanner with a lump hammer to try and crack torque first? It helps to prevent you stripping the thread.

Dave,
I did manage to get about a quarter turn on it but it then seemed to seize up. I know stainless steel threads can "pick up" and seize. This might be what has happened.

I had the same - I took a chance and removed the old d/p with lamda attached.

A single squirt of wd-40 into the inside of the thread freed it up no problem.

I guess it depends a lot on how damaged the thread is now?

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?

Common problem, trick is to crack the sensor thread when cold, use a spray of wd40 once cracked and then it should come out, if its picked up then spray with wd40 and be prepared for a stripped thread, can recut the thread in the d-pipe and clean up the lambda sensor thread with a needle file usually otherwise its a new sensor, use copper grease to refit and don't over tighten, just nip it up to hold tight.
