Red face gear crunching

The odd ocasion when i go to put into gear it crunches on my 94 wrx wagon,is this a clutch or could it just be that the clutch needs bleading? It doesnt do it all the time but mostly in first and reverse.

Does your clutch pedal return to the top of its travel all the time? (can you put your foot under it and bring it up further) If this is so the fluid level might be low and I think there is a spring in the engine bay(near the clutch arm) that breaks/stretches that can be replaced.HTH

If your syncros are worn then try Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil. About £14 a litre and it looks like purple blood but it certainly does the job!
