6 speed reverse selector

6 speed reverse selector
i have a 6 speed box fitted to my classic what has happened is the reverse selector has stopped working i am able to select reverse but can you imagine going from 5th to 6th and missing it and ending up in reverse so dose anyone know what the problem could be
