Default Type r gearbox issues

picked up my sti type r this afternoon. 2001 model version 6. 60000 miles. Now I had suspected a problem with the gearbox as the 54000 mile service had noted a whine to be investigated. I bought the car anyway as on the test drives we could not identify any fault and the car has a good warranty with it (we will see!!)

On the way home there was a definate grating when selecting certain gears, and selecting first, the lever sometimes shudders slightly. Not all the time and I'm not sure if its me as its the quick shift box which I have never used before.

Its in for 60000 miles service at Tileys Bristol next week, but are there any special issues with the type r box I should know about, and if its the worse case, what can I expect the causes to be

Your MY00 as its not a 01 car otherwise it would be a bug eye shouldnt have any real issues with the gearbox, they do have "hardened" cogs but that doesnt mean much, and as for the quick shift, its not the gearbox thats a quick shift, its the connection out of the gearbox that has been changed to a smaller one which gives you the quicker shift.
