Pivot shaft for clutch release lever - plug or not?
The pivot shaft that goes through the clutch release lever seems to be floating in the gearbox and I just pushed it back in to position yesterday. There was nothing holding it in really apart from sheer luck, so I rang up Subaru today to get a price on the 'plug' that is shown in all the workshop manuals I've got access to. Loads of people on here have mentioned it. However Subaru don't know anything about it! It doesn't show up on their part lists and their mechanics say it normally just screws in, not needing a plug on the end. Help! Did Subaru change their designs ever?
I can get it to push inside the hole by maybe half a cm but no further - does it need to be twisted to get it properly in, and does anyone have any suggestions about this mysterious plug?
Cheers!

There is supposed to be a plug there. We don't run it on my mates rally car, we have drilled the carsing and it has a R-clip through the casing to prevent the pin from coming out.

The "plug" as you call it, does actually screw into the casing.
It takes a 10mm Allen head from memory and screws into the casing.
As Alyn says, the shaft also has a slot in it, to allow it to pass a dowel pin at the turbo side of the gearbox.
