The car is taking around 5 times as much petrol since the rattling noise started from my decat downpipe for my classic import impreza. I have already checked the heatshield. Is there a filter inside the decat which might be damaged?

Excessive petrol usage is normally due to a Lamda sensor failure. I suppose the sensor could have fallen apart, but I would expect it to have disappeard from the exhaust a while back.

 

I think that could be the case, a warning light is also been showing since which is the same light when the handbrage is pulled up. Has the light maybe got anything to do with the sensor?

 

I echo what Bruce has said, get the lambada checked mate.

It may well have just come loose so it's not reading correctly and the noise you can hear is it vibrating againts the downpipe.

I'd put money on it !!
