Got one in my MY98 UK scoob, currently running 312BHP and 290LBF on last rollers with the help of 440cc injectors, decat zaust, uprated fuel pump and ECU remap. The 97/98 ECU can be remapped contact API, Power Engineering or Scooby Clinc for some prices.

Just swapping the turbo you will prob hit the boost limiter so I would recommend a remap to be on the safe side. Once remapped you may see a very slight lag in pickup approx 100-200rpm later than the TD04 but far more power up the top of the rev range. Mine was remapped by Power engineering a few yrs ago, I requested 300BHP and as much LBF as possible but mapped for economy when running off boost. I now see a about 23MPG and a far more powerful car

Cheers

As NM says, you shouldn't just bolt on a new turbo without a remap.
If scoobies had map sensors instead of airflow meters, this wouldn't be such a problem, but the air flow meters on imprezas just can't adjust to the new airflow readings.

Question for you NM or anyone else that can awnser it,
I too have a MY98, with a IHI VF24, STI I/C,Decat exhaust,Samco hose kit but i cannot get it mapped!, i even started a forum topic here and the awnsers i got were its not possible (Zen performance stated this too) unless i got a Power FC or a gems ecu. So do you still have the Orig Ecu unit? and if so could you tell me were and how it was mapped please, as ive been trying to find this out for ages.

Many thanks.

Ecutek Remap is for 99> only mate AFAIK.

However, I think Scoobyclinic can map 98 cars. I'm not sure ehat this involves, but don't think its a replacement ECU.

Give them a bell.

They can be re-mapped, but if you are looking at any future mods then its about the same price to get a PFC fitted and mapped, so worth thinking about.

Got an awnser from Scoobyclinic earlier:
Hi,
dont bellieve every thing you read, we cannot re-map v4.(98) ecus.
We can do them however by adding a "chiptorque" board, but by the time its
done it costs nearly as much as supply, fit and map an autronics aftermaket
ecu which is fully mapperble and does away with the notorious air flow
meter.
costs are as follows:-
Chip torque board £450.00
Map £350.00
Rolling road time £150.00
Total £950.00

Autronics supply, fit and map £1500.00
All prices + vat.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Kev.
Seems like you cannot map a MY98 unless you get another Ecu or a Apexi Power FC.

Power Engineering remapped mine for £500, they wouldnt touch imports but no probs with my UK MY98. I arranged a group buy on SN approx 2-3yrs ago. They were the first ones to crack the ecu by adding an additional circuit board, They then use the EcuTek software to remap but its not as easy as a MY99 onwards as it cant be fine tunned while the car is running.

Dave at API is just down the road from me and says he can get mine remapped if I was going to fit a FMIC so get in touch with him directly. Dont rely on his web page as they are rarely upto date call him direct and tell him I sent you.

Cheers

Or get AndyF, Paul @ Zen of Simon aka Jolly Green Monster to supply/Fit/Map an apexi PFC for approx. £800

When i had my MY98.
I had a VF30 and other mods.

I opted for the GEMS ecu, which was pricey, and not really worth it unless you can use the Anti-lag etc..
If i had the same choice now, i would go for Apexi, and get Andy.F to do the mapping.
