AndyF hybrid turbo information
I've heard some good things about the AndyF hybrid TD04 turbo, including a current post in this section and it's something I'll look at when I change my TD04 later this year.
Can anyone tell me a bit more about it - what's changed from the standard TD04, is it still a reliable unit, what are the power/boost gains, what's the advantage benefits over a VFxx unit, etc?

As my Sti has destroyed 2 VF's in 9 months I wouldn't advise one of them, they seem a bit fragile to me....
Now running a TD05-16g from AndyF and no complaints yet (except for the overboost) but it's not been remapped yet, which should resolve that.

Thanks Ron, I've read the following info on Andy's website and it sounds like it might be the way to go. I want to achieve ~300bhp and more importantly, 300lb/ft+ and the TD04 hybrid is more than capable of that, (I intend remove my remaining cats as well). 
AFP4H – is based on a TD04 this is available new or fully re-manufactured on an exchange basis. It is fitted with a new high efficiency, high flow rate compressor wheel and compressor housing which is capable of maintaining the fast spool up rate typically associated with the TD04 but with the ability to run higher boost efficiently over a wider rpm band. This turbo has been tested to levels in excess of 320lbft and 320bhp. With full boost still coming in as low as 2500rpm on a 2.0
£400 exchange or £670 new outright (includes 12 months warranty)

The VF turbo's work very well, and it's very rare for one to fail, unless it has an oil supply problem, is run beyond it's limitations, or has a naff air fitler !
If you keep breaking turbo's, I suggest you look at what's causing it, because it's not the fault of the VF turbo.

Had my VF23 hybrid on for 10000 miles after a 2.5 conversion running 1.3bar max. Still going strong...Think it would produce the sort of figures you are looking for.....best asking the experts.

This is the route i'm thinking of, £400 can't be knocked for that kinda performance!! Def don't want something that doesn't kick until 3500rpms and anywhere around the 300 mark suits me fine!
De-cat this year, turbo and re-map next (thats the plan!)
Don't suppose the £400 includes fitting (prolly pushing it i know!)

Have an AndyF 20g on my tweeked Sti v3. Raced hard without mercy to 8000 rpm/rev limiter..Andy garanteed it under those conditions.
It is running brilliantly, delivers well especially if you keep things buzzing over 4000 rpm.
Tight fit into the space available, full installation details on my engine thread in Projects, read the first 5 pages or so.
For a road spec car with mid range torque and low rev spool you might want to try the 18g(based only on what i've read), but always talk to Andy about your application.
He truly is a Wizzard on this stuff.
Graham.
