Default zerosports or garret

im stuck between a choice of 2 turbo's one is an upgrade to my twin scroll and its the Zero sports twin scroll turbo which supports 400bhp but i dont know how much over that figure, the other is a garret SBR12 its a bolt on subaru turbo which doesnt require rotated pipes etc and supports 500bhp, i already have the manifold and full exhaust in my garage to support the change to the garret. ialready know the zero sports one has better lowdown torque than standard twinscroll turbo and has a much better top end, but the garret is capable of more power it will be run on an uprated 2ltr JDM 2003 engine which would you pick ????

I keep searching on NASIOC to see if anyone has got 400bhp+ from a twin scroll but not managed to find anything.

The Turbo's offered by HKS and Power Enterprise are stated as 400ps+ but I suspect they will not hit over 400bhp on conservative rollers.

Whereabouts have you read about the zerosports turbo? I had a look on their website and translated it but it did not give any power figures that I could see.

When you say you have an uprated 2003 2ltr JDM engine what have you done to it or had done to it?

Personally, I think you need to carefully consider what you want the car for? The two set ups are gonna give very different driving experiences and the path you choose may disappoint you. i.e. I would go for the Garret 500bhp for a drag car but twin scroll for a fast road/track car.

If I was you I would ring Powerstation and see if they have done any hybrid twin scroll turbo's for the 2 litre as they seem to be the only guys in the country who are doing anything with these cars.

As soon as they do I want one

So far all I have been able to amuse myself with is Chassis modsa dn wate injection.

Think you need to determine what you want the car as. Fast, good powerband road car, or a ***** out lag monster. Or something inbetween

The SGP tuners are hybriding the twin scrolls already.

Steve, would you mind emailing me your run as above so I can overlay it with some of mine for comparison, what's was/is the spec with this run other than the PE1825?

Spec is :

PE1825
Stock actuator (modified)
Samco turbo inlet hose
AEM cold air intake
STi Intercooler
Stock Header - equal length
Custom 3" down-pipe
Fujitsubo 3" cat-back exhaust
Uprated injectors
Uprated fuel pump

(Not my motor - but I'll ask for the .ddf - might be a while due to time difference)

cheers
Steve

The PE1825 and Zero Sports are identical - compressor output is 18m3/min = 635CFM = approx. 425HP. So you should expect anything from 400-450HP depending on gas...

I think the PE1825 or ZS is a good upgrade for a twin scroll STI, giving you another 40-60WHP, and you don't have to buy custom DP, Uppipe etc...

But if you don't have a twin scroll, go for non-twin scroll bolt-on like an AVO400/450 or APS SR40....(all hybrid Garretts). There are also a number of hybrid Mitsi bolt-on turbos on the market for non-twin scroll.

Guys

Would it be worth changing an STI5 setup (MD191 turbo running about 360bhp/ 350 lb-ft at 1.5 bar - but boost comes on late at around 4k rpm) for a Twinscroll set up? I want similar power torque figures but would love to be on boost much earlier and I'm not sure there is any other turbo that will come on boost as early as a twin scroll. This would be ideal for sprinting.

What would I need to be able to fit the twin scroll to a classic STI?? Obviously turbo, headers and up-pipe. But would there be anything else needed? - downpipe/ inlet manifold, etc?

Cheers

Terry

Thought I'd plot out my 20G on 2.0 and 2.5 along with the STI JDM 1825.

Some of the NASIOC guys say it is cheaper to do a 2.5 swap on a WRX than retro-fit twin scroll.

Terry, any of the mhi td05 series will do that figure, but depending on which model you go for depends on what you have to do to the fuel!

It depends on the car. I had a 95 WRX in last week and it made 1 bar by 3000 and 1.5 bar by 3300rpm on a TD05-20G/headers/3" exh/90 deg entry/fmic.
