Default exhaust question

hey all,

ive done a search but not found the answer to my questions.

At the moment my 02 sti type uk is way too quiet so after reading many many posts about exhausts i think im going to go for an afterburner vortex.

At the moment ive not got many mods planned but i want a nice throaty exhaust note. Will i be happy with just the backbox alone and worry about the other stuff later? or will i be stupid to buy the box without the rest of the system?

i cant really be arsed to fanny around come MOT time and im not interested in getting pulled over by the local fuzz for a roadside emissions check.

But if i did go for the whole system from the turbo back would i have to have it mapped to stop any boost spikes? or will it be okay without a remap?

would appreciate it if you guys could put answers to these

thanks

Just changing the backbox will not affect your emissions adversely, and shouldn't give you any boost spikes - that's more associated with having a full de-cat and not getting a re-map.

You could change centre to de-cat (like i'm planning) and get the afterburner backbox and still should be OK for your MOT emissions.......and be fairly bloody loud!

Going the full de-cat route will be the loudest and most BHP route but WILL fail an MOT and needs a re-map to give you most benefit from this mod. Some do run full de-cat without re-map OK but won't be getting the best from the mod (in my opinion of course).
If going full de-cat/re-map get any other planned mods on at the same time (performance air filter, FMIC, uprated fuel parts, bigger turbo, etc, etc).

Hope this helps

Dave

Should easily be loud enough to annoy the neighbours!!, if you do lots of motorway journeys replacing the centre and backbox might drone a bit!

Centre pipes are fairly cheap and if it's still not loud enough then de-cat is your only option coz afterburners are LOUD!!

Adding a de-cat downpipe later wouldn't cost too much either - it's the re-map thats expensive!
