Best exhaust for 05 WRX?
I'm after an exhaust for my WRX which won't make too much noise but will give it a bit more of a note and bring out the flat 4 rumble.
And not too expensive!
Any ideas? Since I'm not used to Japanese tuning in ANY form lol
Thanks...

The WR Sport one from Subaru dealers or the Prodrive one will do the job whilst still retaining your warranty. Have a look in For Sale as there's usually one kicking about as folks move on to Afterburners and such. The Prodrive BB is made by Scorpion, so you might be able to get one the same for a bit less dosh without the Prodrive logo on it
Alternatively, plough 1600 into getting the PPP fitted and enjoy more than the burble

Had my 05 WRX PPP`d, and the exhaust note alone is almost worth the money !
(Add the extra power, and it`s WELL worth it).
Again, the Prodrive exhaust is very nice, brings out the sound, is nice and deep, but without being too obtrusive.
I suppose it`s all down to personal taste really. Some of us may think that one exhaust is too loud, whilst another may think it`s too quiet.
Get down to a meet somewhere, and listen to what some of the other lads have on theirs. It`ll hopefully help you make the right decision.

I have a magnex system on my 01 wrx, sounds very nice without being too loud good power gains too, magnex dont seem to get much of a mention on here I thought they were one of the best systems for the scoob (according to my tuner).

I had my Magnex 6x4 Oval fitted yesterday and it sounds superb. It is loud compared to the standard exhaust but not intrusive in the cabin - a nice deep rumble.
I have noticed any power gain yet but I have been taking it steady to bed in my gearbox.

The guy is asking for personal opinions on what is best to go for and I'm offering mine. He's not looking for performance....

I went through exactly the same scenario when I was looking for a backbox my WRX03 and spent ages evaluating the options taking into consideration, noise;performance;cosmetics;cost. The Ninja is ideal - not too loud, nice rumble and coupled with my airfilter I've had some respectible power gains which is a bonus .

Thanks guys,
Having only ever really had Fords I always liked the Magnex systems purely for the fact of their ease of fitment and quality.
Is it worth just getting a backbox? I've always usually gone for a middle pipe and backbox on my other cars but if a backbox makes the difference on the sound (not interested in BHP! Car costs enough on bleeding petrol as it is!) and fits straight onto the standard middle pipe is that worth doing?
Thanks for your advice

Warranty is critical here: If you go for an aftermarket one, make sure it doesn't invalidate your warranty. Ask your dealer first! Most are ok with a backbox change, but would not accept a centre pipe change.
Hayward and Scott are very highly regarded when it comes to Scooby exhausts. They manufactured the original Scoobysport exhaust (which I have and sounds wonderful, btw) as well as several others, including the Afterburner Vortex.

I looked at the following exhausts, primarily for noise rather than power, ended up getting a good deal on a Magnex 6x4 Oval and centre pipe from a guy on this forum.
- Scoobysport 3.5" (round)
- Magnex 3.5" or 4" rolled end (round)
- Scoobyworld "RaceBox" (round)
- Scoobyworld Ninja (round)
- Prodrive backbox (round)
- H&S 3.5" or 4" rolled end (round)
I initially wanted a 3.5" round pipe but am glad I took the chance on the oval, I think it looks great on the newage (MY01 bugeye) without being OTT. The sound is a really nice, deep rumble and not too noisy even at 80mph. I've posted pics on the following thread in case you want to see it on the car.

I fitted a Prodrive backbox on my last WRX and the sound was just right, it brought out that distinctive Scooby burble without being too loud and it shouldn't invalidate your warranty as the PPP cars have them.
I have got a TSL Group N on my STI and I reckon its even quieter than the Prodrive one but still sounds sweet.

Ideal I'll check some out, it's a shame mine hasn't had the PPP upgrade but I got it cheap enough and managed to swing a pretty good deal in p/x'ing my Focus RS (which seem to have bottomed out typically!) So I can't have it always lol

PPP is Prodrive Performance Pack, which is the only performance upgrade which is approved by Subaru to keep your warranty intact. It consists of a remap, BB, decat mid section, high flow downpipe cat section and uprated fuel pump on STi's, and WRX's get the BB, mid, remap and Samco style intercooler pipe. On the STi it ups power from 265 to 300 bhp with 0-62 dropping from 5.2 to 4.6s costing 2000. The WRX gets 265bhp up from 220, and the 5.6s goes down to 4.8s and costs 1600.
HTH
Edited to add, figures quoted are for 03-05 models. Previous models had PPP available but with different results.

No probs
You having much interest in your car mate?
Not the best time to sell I suppose with the uncertainity over fuel prices.....
In fact, has there ever been a good time to sell a Scoob?

Nah ! But I haven't advertised her properly yet. The sale is neither urgent, nor desired, but unfortunately wise If I still have her in 3-5 months I won't be crying as I love her to bits, and ultimately I could probably keep her. I'm away in the Lakes in her in a few weeks and will put her in the 'Trader after and see what happens. Had loads of people wanting bits off her, which must mean the mods were chosen wisely
