CV joint grease on undercowl - where from?
Theres grey grease on the plastic undercowl of my Impreza. I think its CV grease as its way too thick to be oil from the gearbox and the 'box level hasn't dropped.
I've checked the boot twice now and can't see where the grease has come from. Its not really splattered around the engine bay although that side of the 'box case looks quite oily/greasy. Theres just this big dollop of grey grease.
Any ideas where its coming from if not the boot?
Ta.

The inner CV-joints have a small ventilation hole. After a few years of wear the grease gets too thin and escapes through this ventilation and past the drive axle stubs at the gearbox.
