Default STI steering rack doubts

Hi.

Does anyone know if the STI steering racks are different on RHD and LHD cars?

I would like to fit a STI quick rack to my MY99 which is LHD (Euro Spec), but i'm unsure whether it will fit or not.

Would it be possible to fit a steering rack from a later STI (bugeye or blobeye) to a classic Impreza?

Cheers,
Paulo

Paulo, it's not possible to modify a RHD rack to fit a LHD Impreza, however there are companies who can modify your existing rack...but at great expense. Not so long ago there were some LHD Sti quick racks available over here, but again they weren't cheap

However, a new age Sti steering rack will fit, but you will have to get the Column to Rack UJ from the new age car too...then cut the rack end off the UJ and repalce the rack end from your original coupling. The splines are different between new age and classic racks. Oh, and you will also have to bend the power steering pipes from your pump at the rack end to get them to line up with new rack's unions. I recently carried out this modification on my own car, these pics might help you:
