Default R180 / R160 Whats the difference

Does anyone know what the difference is between a R160 diff and a R180, and what do these numbers mean?

The larger the number the bigger the diff. The number actually relates to the size (diameter) of the crownwheel rather than the diff itself. The R180 diff uses different shafts too so they are not a straight swap.
