downpipe MOT fail

downpipe MOT fail
My MY93 has just failed its MOT because of emissions and i had to re-fit my front Cat for it to pass. The garage wouldn't swap the downpipe back to the non Cat one because they said they could get fined.
If i get someone else to swap it over and get caught by a police spot check what trouble will i get into?
I miss the noise and huge bang when changing from 1st to 2nd then 2nd to 3rd etc etc.

Upto the officer I guess. Maybe a telling off, maybe a fine + 3 points.
As for changing it back, get yourself some axle stands and trolly jack, and do it yourself. Takes 2 hours.

well, they can say that your car is not in road worthy condition. I have a friend in the police and he says the penalty depends on many things, but driver attitude is number one.
So in other words, be nice!

I would plead ignorance - say it was the previous owner or something - say you did not know - make something up!!!! What are the chances of your average copper recognising that your car has been de-catted, other than the failed emmissions test which could be for another reason?
