Deep there are a fairly large number iirc, running Motec management I had circa 505bhp 402 ft lbs just b4 I upgraded to later spec bits and I've been running oem management since, not been on the rollers yet but will be soon. using Omega pistons, Arrow rods, Nitrided crank in semiclosed deck block, Sti5 cams verniered, MY03 mains and big ends. Loads of other differences.

Roger Clark Motorsport spec engine effectively this years setup.

Can't keep away then ? Welcome back !!

Im running a 2ltr 94WRX built local to me using RCM parts, Omega pistons, Arrow rods, ARP bolts and other bits. Soon fitting STI V3 heads and cams, uprated turbo and injectors and hope to see between 420 and 440 bhp.

Hi Bob. Yes on my way back in again, its a strange old addiction! Are you still on the STi5, or have you updated to new age? Sure I will see you once purchase made. My deviation from BRD last time gave me 1 year of hassle and I sold the car! I think you know what I'm talking about without mentioning names
Nathan,do you mind if I ask how much your rebuild cost?

Hi Deep: Welcome back. Did you go for a 2.5?

My original 2 litre was built by Matt Clark and mapped by Bob Rawle. Details here :
www.geocities.com/harveysmith3000
I was so happy with the build and convinced that 2.5 litres was not the way to go for high power that I have had another 2 litre built that is in the process of installation. Matt has done the engine with Omega pistons this time, with a few more additional alterations that I wanted over the previos engine which did well over 30k mls. at between 417 and 585 bhp. Bob is fitting a Motec M800 and the power and torque will be a bit more but still a daily driver.

There are too many bullsh***ers on here and elsewhere giving duff advice. I guess they all p**s in the same pot because they stick together but it costs innocents dear.

BTW, Subaru engines can give quite descent power on standard internals. I do not know how long for as I have only done 15K on my WRX engine since last January, during which time it has been between 370 and 400 + bhp. 95 M/Y Jap Wagon with nearly 80K. That may be a little OTT but there are plenty reliable 300 bhp+ cars with standard internals. A lot depends on the mapping and how it is driven. At higher power I am assuming it is put together properly in the first place.
Getting the current power was no particular effort and the bits did not cost a lot. a couple of years ago there were very few 400 bhp cars in the flesh but lots of talk etc etc but I am sure you know that now.

I have noticed that the version 8/9 cars respond very well to a little work and pretty modest expense. Andy F has a WRX on a TD04 300bhp and 320 ftlbs and Bob did a project and published all his work, on here in projects, to take an STi 9 to over 380 bhp??? for much the same work. (on the exhaust, induction and Ecutek). I am sure Bob can fill you in on the detail.

Good luck and sorry you have had a bad experience. Perhaps others can learn by it.

Hi Harvey
Have'nt bought the car yet but avidly looking. Not much changed for the 18 months I was away,ie lots of people with unsubstantiated claims, and then a few who really know what they are talking about.
Plan is to purchase a Type R(4+) and then mod to a 350+ish BHP road beast. All done the right way. RR figures meaning nothing to me as long as it does the job on the road.
Luckily for me this time it will be a second car so being off the road does'nt scupper my life.
This time I'm basically going to follow BRs advice to the letter, he is one of the few I trust.
Have followed your work over the last couple of years and obviously impressed. Hope you will add some friendly advice also

All the best
Deep

Deep, I've ran Cossie pistons, Arrow rods and oem nitrided crank in a cdb at ~ 400hp for around 3 years (sti5-r). Very strong motor. Bought most of the bits second hand so very cost effective.

If the sti4/5 you plan on purchasing has been treated right under its previous owner then with the right modifcations I don't see a problem with 350hp.
