About to buy an STi3 RA to add to the collection, but should a 1997P have a red top engine or has it had a transplant?

I am well aware that there are some 96 sti2s around with redtops, but I need to know what year it was introduced.

My sti 3 has red top.

 

I think I've read ALL Sti v3 (facelift 1997 MY) have Red Tops.
Several I suspect like mine are loosing great sheets of the crinkle red off the manifold

Missed a bit.

A friend had an Sti RA MY97 V3 and the engine was a red top.
Also, my engine is an Open Deck block.
