Question backfire woes

Can anyone please advise i fitted a new turbo about a week ago everything has been running sweet, until yesterday when she started to splutter and cough,I looked to find a tear in my turbo inlet pipe[the bit between the maf and turbo]
would this cause the lumpyness or could it be something worse.PS its a 99 turbo classic, any help grately appreciated.

In short yes, if the engine is sucking in air that is bypassing the maf sensor it will screw up the fuel mixture.

I would avoid running on full boost until you sort it, as it is likely the engine will run lean with unpleasent consequences.
