Question coolant sensor anyone???

Been on the phone to my nearest main dealer today trying to track down the part number of the coolant sensor . I have diagnosed mine as having a problem because the check engine light comes on and when i connect the ecu check wires it flashes "21" - coolant sensor problem? It won't start when this happens and the cooling fans come on. Disconnect the battery for 5 mins and it's fine. Am I right?
The dealer couldnt find the part number or know where it was. I understand from another thread it is under the inlet manifold.
Can anyone help with a def. location and/or part number please?

Yep, it's under the manifold and sort of get-at-able if you are a double jointed midget. Seriously, not too bad just not a 5 minuter.

You should be able to quote your chassis number to a dealer and they'll automatically be able to order the right part.

Unless it's an import, in which case you need to call us and we'll sort you out.

thanks Dave , how much are they , it's a UK MY95 ...?

I have had the dealer looking for it for a day now.... today , as i went to pick up some other parts, I explained where it was as roughly I had roughly worked it out from the pdf manuals downloaded from Chris Palmer's site .They still didn't know. They suggested it might be the ECU.... i agreed as far as the ECU was reporting the fault but their lack of knowledge worries me !

A whole tenner would do it plus a coupla quid postge and then the VATmans slice. recorded delivery Royal mail would be best.

Call us on Monday if you want. I won't be there but the Mark or Clare will sort you out.

Good Luck David

?

In case you missed the point i meant that in my experience the sensors do fail and that it has never been the ecu when i have fixed the Fault, A quick call to API will sort you out a new sensor..

Sorry Rob , didn't miss your point, thanks for your post. What I was saying was I couldn't believe the ECU response of the dealer either. They seemed about as clued up as if I'd asked Macdonalds staff.
