Default removing excess oil

My scooby has too much oil, due to the supplying garage. Have checked on a number of occassions and always just above top line. Can I remove it using an oil syringe rather than via the sump plug? I'd rather have greater control over how much I removed.
Cheers
Nick

I used a length of small tubing and a syringe down the dipstick tube, had to remove about half a litre to get the right level.

Undo sump plug till a small drip develops and let out the required amount.
Worked for me.

Do you have to remove the guard to do this?
