Default 4th to 5th gear ''slight crunch'' type R version 5

hi ive seen a type r version 5 V-LimiteD for sale ,and the buyer says that when going approx 70 mph when changing gears from 4th to 5th there is a ''slight crunch'' but if u allow the revs to drop there isnt ! could some one say wether this is common or a problem ? apparently according to most people they says its common on type Rs or RAs ?just wanted to verify that or be told other wise , thanks !!

Apparently its a nut on the selector fork whch loosens IIRC. I think it can be tightened with the box in place but i might be wrong.

I've never asked to be honest, I've got a spare box, so not too bothered!!

I had the same problem with my version 5 type r and thought it was the common problem with the loose nut that can affect the series 2 boxbut it turmed out it was the syncro. Try and double clutch when changing from 4th to 5th and see if that sorts it. If it does it's probably the syncro, if not it could be the nut.

When I got it sorted I had the syncro replaced and the nut changed (just in case) at the same time and it was about £250 IIRC.
