Question MY00 - MAF/MAS and MAP sensors

I'm trying to not get myself confused with MAF/MAS and MAP sensors... especially after reading some info on NASIOC...

Do MY00/MY01 Impreza Turbos have air flow meters..? Perhaps just a US market thing..? Of course, I'm assuming MAF/MAS is the same thing as an air flow meter.

And 'Manifold Absolute Pressure'... is this in conjunction with MAF/MAS sensors or instead of..?

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Jonty (looking forward to collecting my UK MY00 Turbo)

All standard Imprezas have MAF sensor and are particularly weak on MY99/00's.
On my 3rd one
Located just behind the airbox and require a T20 security torx to remove them.
Part No 22794AA010 Meter CP-Airflow about £75
Just for future reference

Richie,

Many thanks -- that's very useful information. I've noted the part number for future reference.

I wonder if there's anything else I should be aware of -- I thought I'd aim to get a last revision Classic so that any bugs and problems would all be sorted, yet they seem to have dicky air flow sensors and an ECU (AE802) which wants to run richer than a rich thing and end up with less grunt.

Ho hum. Well, here's hoping my MY00 has an AE801 fitted (October 2000 though, so unlikely) and a MAF sensor which behaves itself. At least compared to an MR2 the sensor can be replaced. The entire AFM has to be replaced on a '2 and doesn't come with a complimentary tube of lube.

Cheers,

Jonty.

MAF's are sensitive to vibration and contamination so watch for 3rd party filters and Induction Kits. I've had my MY99 RB5 since new and only had the MAF fail very recently, so the original lasted a good 5yrs.

I think the misunderstood comes from NA car chitchat, which seem to be using Speed Density and no more Airflow ECU management from 2000 on :
