Exhaust with Sport cat: which solution??
Coming to a decision point very soon!
I am modifying my Sti v3 and want to run with a cat full-time on the car.
I have a second hand down pipe with a jap sport cat in it but a twin tube waste gate design, not open neck, but that's not too damaging. It is a 3'' tube though.
I need some clear thinking on the ideal system:
1
As above, lagged and bolt on .
2
Keep my Magnex decat, lagged, and fit a sport cat in the centre section to minimise the effect on power etc.
I thought that all cats needed exhaust gasses as hot as possible to work well, so the further away the cat, the weaker the effect.
3
Cutting and bolting in a sport cat to the Magnex down pipe. Hard to do and stop it all leaking.
4
Buying a nice new d/p with sport cat with latest technology at the Autosport Show in 3 weeks time (fed-up of spending $$$$ on the car!)
Any thoughts/facts based on real experience would be nice!

The following 100 cell cat costs around 80-100 quid and takes an hour to weld into the (shown) STi7 centre section. It passes all Swiss emissions tests with the original d/p cat knocked out - they are all done with the engine (and cat) at operating temps.

Richard, thanks for the detail:
Is that a mild steel aluminiun coated system, so the cat is also that material?
I've read somewhere that the Graham Goode cat D/P is good (and $$$).
Any others, or is this 'pioneering stuff'??
