Sourcing a MY99-00 Prodrive PP
While I understand others have gone for other 3rd party ECUs, being fairly conservative I am more interested in upgradeing to a PPP. I understand this is made up of a replacement ECU, centre and rear exhaust system and improved intercooler pipework.
The question is, other than going to Prodrive, where can I get hold of these componants? Where is the best source? Breakers? Keep an eye on the for sale forum here? Post a wanted advert?
Obviously I looking for the right parts at the best price and I am in no hurry.
Your thoughts, as always, appreciated :O)
Thanks
Simon

the only reason for going the PPP route is to maintain a warrenty imho.
on a brand new (or less than 3 yr old) car its the only way to increase power/performance and keep the get out of jail card.
if you go for an aftermarket ecu (or TEK3-reflash of your oem ecu) you can get better gains for less money, of course you dont have to aim for 300 brake when you get remapped, its just that a lot of us do
it seems like you havent got any mods of note yet, have you thought about a stage 1 tune?
maybe:
dawes manual boost controller (set at 1.1bar)
knocklink
lambdalink
boost gauge
using optimax all the time.
this could well see you into 260bhp and would be a good stepping stone.
2nd user could cost as little as
£200 all in

I have ltd my modifications to simply ICE, light bulbs, mats and good brake pads.
I guess my concerns on going 3rd party ECU are:
1. The affects on long term reliabilty. I believe the PPP is well tested and proven (though obviously the 'benefits' are more modest).
2. I believe that the Prodrive option will improve the saleability (when I come to sell)
3. The affects going 3rd party ECU will have on my Insurance (nice and low at under 600 ukp!!!).

1. modern replacement ecu's are very very good
TEK3 remaps actually still keep the original ecu and allow you to go back to standard at the push of a button
2. resale time is a nightmare, but PPP may make your car a little more appealing, however. I doubt very much you will get any extra money for it being there
if anything, you can strip aftermarket mods and sell them on here to geta big chunk of your cash bacvk and allowing you to sell your car as standard
3. many owners cannot get insured on the same car after they have fitted PPP, it is a mod that needs declaring and you insurance will go up
honestly, the only reason for going PPP is a) prestige of having prodrive bits and b) warrenty (of which, being a 5yr old car- about to be 6) you would be well out of already
Andy
(Apexi aftermarket ecu on a my99 - making in excess of 300 brake and 290 lb of torque)

I would seriously consider a TEK remap mate. There are no reliability issues with them

My insurance company didn't mind about a remap, my car is already group 20
