Right I already have a K&N panel and was wondering if I changed it to one of the above would I get a bit of extra power, your view on the both would be very grateful
I don't think you'd notice much TBH. You're already liberating a little bit with the K&N, so the amount left to be gained will be tiny. Also consider the STi is not a lifetime product, so it'll be £40 every 10k. Better gains may be had by removing the resonator in the wing, but don't ask me how you do it
or some better induction hoses (Samco ?).

Thought about the resonator removal and cold air feeding it with some flexi hose from the front bumper was just worried that I would have to get a remap for this as I don't want to screw the MAF up , my car is a MY93 JDM WRX and I was wondering as well where I would obtain samco hoses for such car and which I would need
I have switched from an STI panel to a Green (cos it is expensive changing the STI at every 10K or so). I haven't noticed a huge difference in peformance apart from the car seems to pull ever so slightly more with the green (but this could be placebo effect). I don't have the resonator removed or anything (through fear of water getting in). One big difference though is the Green has made quite a difference to induction noice......it has a similar sound to an induction kit but not as loud. The STi never seemed to be as loud

Yeah that was my worry with the water situation, I was also looking into one of these
Sorry piccy rather small

it replaces the small resonator box after the MAF sensor

People at Tommi Mäkinen Racing said that original airbox & filter flows so well ...that they don't use freeflow filters (only normal WRX STI filters) in their Group N rally cars
There was a 4 page technical article about the new WRX STI MY05 Group N rally car in the local motorsport magazine
(Yes, he has his own Group N workshop and rally school @ Puuppola, Finland, http://www.tommimakinen.net/)

Removing the resonator is a good idea if replaced by decent ducting from the front of the car.
The removal of the resonator after the MAF is also a good idea. That resonator is very restrictive to flow (the pressure drop across it is twice the pressure drop across the OEM airbox).
If you already have the K&N panel, I'd stick with that.

Cheeers Rich was toying with the idea of a Apexi power intake but was told to steer clear of inductions unless I am running high BHP of which I am not ( 266bhp )
