Default superchips

Hopefully, some time in the new year I'll have some funds available to take my scoob on to the next level. I'm looking to get more power out of it, and it's looking like getting it Superchipped is the best way on the budget I'll have.

Has anyone had experience of these on scoobs, and what else would I need to get the best out of it. Current engine mods are restricted to a full 3" decat exhaust, Green air filter and an atmo DV. The car is a UK MY97 Turbo.

What increase could I expect? Last dyno run was 235bhp and 222lb/ft, with just the mods above (prior to changing the backbox to a 5" pipe with less restriction).

Are there any drawbacks to this kind of installation?

No more than £1k, absolute max.

If not superchips, what else would people recommend?

Proper remaps cost less than a grand - about £750ish, I think.

Forget the superchips they are a complete rip off, Just A very expensive Fuel cut defender & a Bleed Valve.
You would be better off spending your money on a TD05 Turbo (good 2nd user one) & a Apexi PFC mapped by AndyF.

Or real budget, HKS Fuel cut defender, Dawes Boost controller (to up the boost), Boost Gauge, Afr Gauge (Maybe, ) & Defo a KnockLink (to keep an eye on the engine)

Dean

Just Happen to have A HKS FCD

DON'T fit a Superchip, they are a very BAD IDEA.

We can offer a proper upgrade using a replacement chip inside the existing ECU and then remap via that chip to get the results that you need. It'll be bespoke to your car and will almost certainly produce a 10% gain in power without any real drawbacks.

We see and hear of too many blown engines after a superchip has been fitted to be more than coincidence.

Cheers David, might be on the blower to you soon! I'm just trying to do as much research as possible at the moment, as this subject is just a totally bewildering minefield for me!

I have had a Unichip and Dawes for nearly three years.

No problems at all, ever. Along with other mods, now pushing out well over 300bhp. It might be considered crude, but if done by the right people, can be very effective. On the earlier cars, your options are more limited - i certainly wouldn't rule out a Unichip as an option.

Yep, there sure is - depending upon your ecu type, somewhere between £500 plus VAT and £650 plus VAT fitted and mapped.

A Unichip is also an answer, we have had some very good results from them on STi cars. We don't do them but can advise where best suited to you to have it done.

Call me if you like

Good Luck David API

Apexi Power FC fitted and mapped by Andy F is £700 - Link.

The Power FC is highly rated for Subaru's and especially when Andy has mapped them. It was definitely the best £700 I have spent!

My first post,

I have a superchip, engine has done almost 70 000 km since.
Never had any problems, not even on a hot summer track day.

Cheers
