Question Multi meter maf check how?

Done a search but can't find How to check if my maf sensor is working ok, do I need to use a multi meter? if so does it have to be on the car at the time or is it a case of see what power/volts is running through the terminals with the meter, and what reading should I be looking for.
Help how do I check.
car is a 1995 sti ra v2
Cheers.
