Greasemonkey moment coming......
01MY (STi7 JDM only) was the same as 02MY (STi8) was the same as 03MY UK (STi9) was the same as 04MY UK (STi10) is the same as 05MY UK (STi11)
Now which do we REALLY mean??

Thanks Mike for your input - confused more than ever now...
It's in the pictures below and it's from an MY02 UK STi Type UK (Bugeye). Bob - I still take your word for it that it's better than the APS that is pictured next to it - even though the APS is a lot bigger. Basically I'm going for an uprated TMIC on a P1 and combining with STi8 scoop and waterspray - would you recommend going for this one Bob??

Sorry, the confusion is caused by people erroneously using a number system when describing the cars. It's much easier to use the MY designation so there is no doubt.
BOB
That's the whole point of my post.
THERE WAS NO UK STI7.
It doesn't exist, it never existed, it won't ever exist.
The numbers stopped at STi6, the next one would have been STi7 for 01MY but that was JDM only so if you had to use a number system, the first non-JDM STi would have been an 8.
Sorry, it's one of my pet hates......

They are getting at certain individuals with the posts and confusing you, but going back to your question they are the same, all the 01 onwards STi intercoolers are identical.
The APS one pictured is way better as it has a much thicker core than the STi version.
If you have choice get the APS version.

Plus, for the improvement I'll get on my P1 with a large scoop and waterspray and remap - I think I'll keep the cost down and go the way of the STi8.

Terry, my mate ran the APS version on his 'Tuned' MY01 WRX and it was quality, admittedly he had new turbo and re-map but the STi version wouldnt have been as good, the APS one has a good reputation but getting hold of them has proved hard and the price is a knee weakner.
My other friend has an STi intercooler on his MY01 and it has increased his boost from 1.2 bar to 1.3 but thats it, his car has a custom map (Ecutek) and over a few days started boosting to the higher setting.
Rich Wild runs a similair intercooler (MRO) on his very well set up classic and it too has the much thicker core over any OEM item,he chose it over a front mount, due to its cooling abilities without adding excessive lag.

It might be thicker but the core density is no where near as good, size doesn't matter in this case, design and configuration does it. This is speaking from experience of mapping cars with a variety of top mounts APS included. It is better than a GC8 intercooler though. However its not all about the intercooler, you must fit the large scoop to go with it, air flow onto it is everything.

Talking of scoop sizes - why did the MY03-onwards scoops have to get so much larger than the MY01-02?
From a little project I have been doing, I found that the scoop splitter from the UK MY01/02 STi is easily swallowed inside the common WRX blobeye scoop.
So I presume I can get more airflow with a blobeye WRX scoop and STi IC & air splitter (which I have modded), than the std bugeye STi IC set-up?
So just how does the bugeye STi IC get anywhere near the same airflow as the blobeye STi with its monster scoop and is it the cause of those with poor STi PPP outputs?
