I have a STI 4 RA with which I have been contolling boost with an old type AVCR (just allows you to turn boost up and down) for a few weeks. It works well at stopping any creep but I have found it slow to produce boost.
Basically boost rises to standard acuator pressure then half a second later jumps to where the apexi solenoid is set.
Today I tried a little experiment - I put an old Dawes device I had lying around in line before the inlet to the apexi solenoid. Took it for a run and after a few adjustments to the Dawes.......sucess! I have the Dawes set lowish and the apexi unit allows me to turn boost up by approx 1 psi at a time. The bonus is aggressive boost rise you would associate with the Dawes!
Strange but it works
